To report potential or known discrimination or harassment toward an individual or group based on age, color, disability, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, race, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status. Discrimination and harassment also include sexual violence, interpersonal violence, stalking, and related misconduct, such as retaliation.

The University provides a number of reporting options related to discrimination and harassment, including formal reports to the Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office, reports to Responsible Employees, and reports to confidential resources.

Responsible Employees are employees on campus who are required to report information related to discrimination and harassment, including sexual misconduct, to the EOC. Many offices on campus that provide support and resources are Responsible Employees. You may make a report to or seek support from any of the Responsible Employees below, and they will share your report with the EOC. You will receive an outreach from the EOC with options for resources, support, and resolution processes.

Carolina Ethics Line

Carolina Ethics Line is a secure method through which to submit an anonymous report either online or by telephone. All reports submitted through Carolina Ethics Line will be given careful attention by appropriate UNC-Chapel Hill offices and officials. Anyone filing a report via Carolina Ethics Line should retain the report key and password and return to the website within 10 working days to check for comments or follow-up questions.

Office of Student Conduct

Any person may report suspected misconduct by a UNC-Chapel Hill student to the Honor System using this online reporting system. A report can be made about an academic or conduct violation. The Instrument of Student Judicial Governance, which contains the Honor Code, governs student conduct and adjudication of potential Honor Code violations.

Reports involving discrimination or harassment, as well as potential student conduct violations, will be shared with the EOC.

Office of Human Resources

The Office of Human Resources (OHR) is the University central office responsible for delivering a wide range of human resources programs and services to SHRA staff and EHRA Non-Faculty employees. In particular, OHR’s Employee and Management Relations unit provides guidance and resources associated with facilitated conversations for addressing workplace issues; SHRA and EHRA Non-Faculty disciplinary processes and grievance policies; and the University’s Violence in the Workplace policy.

Workplace Violence Reporting

  • Workplace violence should be reported to either UNC Police or Employee and Management Relations (E&MR) in the Office of Human Resources, depending on the circumstances. Access the Workplace Violence Reporting Form and additional information.
  • Violence currently in progress or immediate threats of violence should be reported to UNC Police (dial 911) for emergency response coordination. The reporting party should then report the threat to Employee and Management Relations.
  • Potential threats of violence should be immediately reported to Employee and Management Relations at 919-843-3444.

Office of Postdoctoral Affairs

A Formal Grievance Process is available to Postdocs for the fair, orderly and prompt resolution of work-related disputes alleging that actions taken by management have violated University policies.

Gender Violence Services Coordinators

The Gender Violence Services Coordinators are a confidential advocate to all students, faculty, and staff who have experienced or are experiencing, interpersonal violence and gender-based violence either before or during their time at UNC-Chapel Hill. This service offers emotional support; answers questions about reporting options with the University or police; provides assistance in navigating through the reporting process; and links to other support options at UNC-Chapel Hill and in the community.
