Matthew TealFollowing an extensive search, Matthew Teal has been named the new associate director of Ethics and Policy. He has served as the interim associate director since June and assumes this new position effective Oct. 31.

In his new role, Teal will provide leadership and oversight of the policy management and ethics programs, resources and reporting mechanisms that allow the University to continually implement best practices in those areas across campus. He will serve as chair of the Policy Review Committee, leading the process of review and approval of University policies and ensuring that Ethics and Policy is supporting the policy work of units across campus. Teal will also coordinate with Institutional Integrity and Risk Management and the Office of Internal Audit to develop a comprehensive enterprise risk management framework for the University. This framework will allow the University to proactively identify and mitigate risks and better comply with UNC System Office policy.

Teal joined the University in 2017 as a University policy analyst. In that role, he developed a reputation as a collaborative problem solver and led high-profile projects, including the procurement and implementation of the University’s current electronic policy repository. Prior to his work at the University, Matthew worked as a national security analyst in Washington, D.C. for five years.

Teal earned both his Bachelor of Arts in history and his Master of Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is currently pursuing doctoral studies at North Carolina State University in higher education administration with a focus on enterprise risk management.
