Office of Animal Care and Use

The Office of Animal Care and Use (OACU) is responsible for ethical and regulatory oversight of research at UNC-Chapel Hill that involves animal subjects. The OACU administers, supports, and guides the work of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and all related activities. Any research involving animal subjects proposed by faculty, staff, or students must be reviewed and approved by an IACUC before research may begin, and before related grants may be funded.

Should you have a concern regarding animal welfare or protocol non-compliance, you may provide the information anonymously and, to the extent that it is possible, the university will preserve your anonymity. It is helpful for the IACUC to have as much information as possible in order to conduct a thorough investigation.
