To report concerns relating to any use of Information Technology or potential misuse of sensitive information at UNC-Chapel Hill. Information Technology concerns may be related to appropriate use, security violations, phishing, copyright issues, or misuse of any computers, networks, other IT systems, or the information they contain including privacy or confidentiality concerns.

Potential or known breaches of national standards and regulations for protecting privacy under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the North Carolina Identity Theft Act, and the University’s policy on Personnel Records and Confidentiality of Personnel Information.

Carolina Ethics Line

Carolina Ethics Line is a secure method through which to submit an anonymous report either online or by telephone. All reports submitted through Carolina Ethics Line will be given careful attention by appropriate UNC-Chapel Hill offices and officials. Anyone filing a report via Carolina Ethics Line should retain the report key and password and return to the website within 10 working days to check for comments or follow-up questions.

Service Portal (919-962-HELP)

For UNC-Chapel Hill issues involving potential acceptable use problems, phishing scams, Onyen compromise, theft or loss of laptops or other computer equipment, loss or misuse of sensitive information, copyright violations, misuse of systems, policy concerns, or information security concerns. To report a concern call 919-962-HELP or submit a request via help.unc.edu.

If you suspect an information security or privacy incident that might endanger sensitive information or a mission-critical University resource please call 919-962-HELP, request a “critical ticket for Information Security,” and provide only a contact name and phone number where you can be reached (no other details). An Incident Handler will respond within 30 minutes.

Office of Human Resources

The Office of Human Resources website contains the policies, procedures and systems regarding employment at the University, including grievance policies, instructions and forms for filing a grievance under the University’s policy on Personnel Records and Confidentiality of Personnel Information.

Institutional Privacy Office

The Institutional Privacy Office provides centralized oversight for University compliance with federal and state privacy regulations, as well as general industry privacy standards for restricted or sensitive information collected, used, or retained by the University.
